Show Notes

I’ve coached men and women around food and weight for years, and there’s one thing I know for sure:

“Just try harder” is NOT a coaching strategy.

So I’m doing something a little different.

I’m looking for one person to coach through their emotional eating for FREE for 10 weeks – and I’m bringing you along for the ride.

This is The Emotional Eating Experiment.

We’re going to start with the food.

The nighttime eating.

The cravings.

The “I don’t even know why I’m doing this” moments.

And then we’re going to get curious.

What’s happening right before you eat?
What is the food doing for you?
What do you believe you should be doing instead?
What are you avoiding, suppressing, or not allowing yourself to want? To feel?

And what happens when you stop trying to control the behavior and actually understand it?

I don't know exactly what we're going to uncover, and honestly, that's what makes this so damn interesting!

Because I want you to hear what coaching actually looks like when the answer isn't another diet, more discipline, or a lecture about willpower.

You'll get to listen as we work through the real stuff in real time.

If you're tired of fighting with food and curious about what's really going on underneath it, you can apply to be my coaching participant here: https://form.typeform.com/to/Y6m8d1sg

Applications are open September 15–27, 2026.

Or come back and listen along as we find out.

xoxo

[00:00:02] Ready to lose 40 plus pounds without giving up happy hours, weekend brunches, or date nights. Then it's time to uncover the hidden link between binge eating and toxic relationships. And finally break free from both. Welcome to the Hungry for Love podcast with Jillian Scott. Y' all ready? Let's go. [00:00:24] Hey. Hey. Welcome back and welcome to the emotional eating experiment. [00:00:29] Now, I'm calling this an experiment because I think this is really how we have to address and handle things like emotional eating or binge eating, because really we want to look at this from the lens of being a scientist running an experiment, really being curious and having a lot of compassion and. And just really trying to. To understand what's really happening. Another way that I describe it often with clients is we want to become the detective, right? We're not attached to the outcome. There's no emotional tie to it being this or that. It's like we're very neutral. We're just trying to understand what actually happened. Right? And so when we can do that, where there's no shame, there's no judgment, there's no self loathing, there's no preconceived ideas of like, it has to be this or it should be that or this should work, or, you know, it's like we can really get out of these preconceived ideas of what it's supposed to look like or what it's supposed to be, and we can just explore and we can get really clear on what's actually happening, what's actually eating you. Right? That's what we want to look at. So I am looking for one person to coach through their emotional eating habit for eight to 10 weeks, so about two months, and to document and share their journey. Here on the podcast, you would get coaching for free. And in return, I'd be asking you to share your story, to be vulnerable, to get coached. I'd be asking for your time. And I think sometimes this can be really helpful for us just to hear and to process through what it is that we're actually experiencing. And then for other listeners, it can be helpful to see how this unfolds in real time. Because there's a difference between hearing a concept being taught and hearing a concept from like a theoretical standpoint versus seeing how it unfolds in real life, seeing what that actually looks like. Right? So you hear me talk about often how the food is not the problem. It's not about solving food. It's not about how do I say no to my craving or how do I have more willpower we actually need to understand the emotions at play and what's happening, but it's so nuanced for everybody. There is not a one size fits all. There's a process that we can go through, but it really depends on where you're at. And so to be able to share this on the podcast, to give a little behind the scenes of what it's like to get coached, what it's like to be in close proximity with me, what it's like to be able to explore and go deeper under the surface of this type of habit, that's what I want to create, is just this experience where you get the awareness, the epiphanies, you learn how to start to change these habits. [00:03:08] You recognize that it's not about the willpower, it's not about sugar, and you can start to get clarity on what is actually driving this pattern, what's actually driving this habit. And so when it gets demonstrated to us now, not only do we have a better awareness of what this means, how it works, but we also then can take that and apply it to our own lives. And so you wouldn't just be getting coaching and able to work on your own emotional eating habit. You would actually be able to. By sharing your story, you're now helping other people to be able to see themselves in you. [00:03:44] My hope and my goal is to eventually be able to create a community where there's safety, there's peace and ease and comfort when it comes to talking about some of these bigger, heavier topics. This is why I go first. This is why I share a lot of my story. [00:03:59] But I don't want to make things just about me. I can give you a lot of examples from my life, but I think it's also powerful when we hear from other people and you get to be a part of this experience and a part of this journey. [00:04:11] This has been on my mind since, oh, gosh, it was well before I had a podcast. It might have even been like, 2018, 2019. I first had this idea of, I think there's so much power in being able to show and demonstrate what happens on the back end, like, what happens within these coaching calls. There comes a point where you're like, all right, it's time to do this. I've had this idea for a while now. It's time to act on it. It's time to implement. [00:04:34] And this is going to be a bit of an experiment for me as well, of just seeing, like, okay, how does this work? Is 8 to 10 weeks enough of a time Frame what happens next, what happens after that. This is very much also going to be me exploring if this is something I want to do once or twice a year, if this is something where it's like, tried it once and maybe I don't want to do it again. You know, it's like giving yourself permission to try things and to know that clarity comes from taking action. [00:05:04] So if you would like to be a part of this, you would be applying through a form that I'll put in the description here. So you would complete your application by Sunday, September 27th. So I'm wanting to give you ample time to actually be able to, you know, go in and answer the questions. I think there's about eight. There's not too many. But I just want to get to know you and a little bit of your experience and your, like, kind of where you're at currently with food in terms of relationships and a little bit of your recent history in that sense. I will select the coaching participant the week of September 28th, and then sessions will begin the week of October 5th, and then we'll run through the end of November, maybe early December as we get into the holidays. There's going to be a little bit of flexibility, but essentially we'll be getting together once a week. And I'm going to walk you through my process. So you're going to get access to my course and to all of the content that I create. Honestly, part of this is an experiment just in running this, of I'm asking somebody to be very vulnerable now with me and sharing their story and talking about their real thoughts, emotions, experiences, their trauma. You get to decide what you want to share. But we can create the best dynamic and you're going to get the best results when you're really willing to put it all out there. So being that this is an experiment, I'm also curious to see, do I even get anybody who wants to apply? You know, like, does anybody want to do this? I don't know. We're going to find out. [00:06:32] But this is really just an opportunity to truly learn from the emotional eating habit and to really understand what is the message, what is the gift within it. [00:06:42] And so I'm looking for some specific traits. Number one, the person that I'm looking to coach, they likely already have an idea of what they should be doing. They just may be having a hard time following through on it and doing it consistently. You might have an idea of, I know what to eat, or I think I know what I should be eating, but there might be some lingering diet rules coming up, or maybe you know you want to be exercising more, but you're not doing it consistently, or you know you need to be sleeping better or prioritizing sleep, but you struggle to go to bed at 10pm and you find yourself staying awake until midnight. A lot of nights there's already a sense of what I feel like I should be doing. This person will also likely be emotionally eating or binge eating, so you find yourself turning to food when you're not physically hungry. [00:07:27] And it might be that maybe sometimes you make a plan and you don't follow through on it, or maybe you have a plan in your head, but then you don't follow it. When it comes to real life and implementation, you might find that you're overindulging on specific nights, or maybe it's on the weekends. Like there's specific times or special occasions, special events where you tend to overindulge more, but you're tired of starting over. You sense that there's something deeper going on, but you just can't put your finger on it. And even after listening to all of these podcast episodes, you're still not sure. How does this really apply to you? How do you really work through this? [00:08:02] I'm also looking for somebody who has been in at least one toxic relationship, whether that was childhood, dating, marriage, maybe all of the above. I find that so often it does show up in multiple areas, but that is often a key component of this is a lot of times when we are emotionally eating, we do have this dynamic. And I'm looking for somebody who's willing to be open and honest, who knows that there is gonna be some vulnerability here, but that it's safe to share and that not only will you get a lot out of this, but that other listeners are going to be able to learn from and be able to solve their own patterns. Because of your willingness to share your experience, you've got to be willing to be coached, to see new perspectives, to try something new. And when I say be coached, I'm not looking for somebody who just says yes to everything. I want to hear your yeah, buts or your okay, I see what you're saying, but I'm having a really hard time because of this. Or I always like to separate my brain. I'll say things like my brain is telling me and then fill in the blank. But it needs to be that conversation. You have to be willing to speak up, willing to try something new, willing to see things from a new perspective, willing to experiment and to Try something different. [00:09:12] This is such an experiment on so many levels. That's why I just, I love the name. I feel like it's just so accurate. And ultimately, you've gotta be comfortable having your story and these sessions shared on the podcast and really shared for other people to listen to and learn from. [00:09:28] Again, you will have some say in what gets aired. If there are things that you specifically don't want to talk about, that's okay. If there are things that you share in a coaching session and then you realize, I actually am not comfortable with that being shared, just let me know. But really, I'm looking for somebody who would be comfortable being vulnerable and sharing what they've been through. And then we can absolutely use pseudonyms. We can make this somewhat anonymous. We can replace certain identifying details, of course, like location, name, even age. Some things are going to be important. Like if you have four kids, it's probably going to be important to know that you have four kids or if you have young kids versus adult kids. Right. Like, some things might be useful just from a context standpoint, but a lot of things we can rename, we can adjust so that there is still a level of privacy there. If you want it, if you are open to it and you are open to being more public, I'm also happy to bring you on to do like an Instagram Live or a Facebook Live, or we can do some other things like that at the beginning and at the end to share more about what we're doing here. [00:10:33] So if you're curious and you'd like to learn more, the application will be in the description. So fill that out, complete it. And just completing the application does not mean that you have to do it if you're selected. [00:10:46] So if you complete the application and then you later decide, you know what, I've changed my mind. This is not what I want. That's also okay. So I'll be making that selection the week of September 28th. So I would be looking for somebody to be able to give me a firm yes or no by that date. Those are the details. Questions, comments, fears, regrets? Send me a message, let me know. And I'm happy to to answer anything else, but I look forward to running this, especially through the holidays. Right. Like, I thought about the timing of this too, and I was like, this is actually really great. We're heading into October soon. We'll be heading into Halloween and candy season. We're going to head into Thanksgiving and Christmas and Hanukkah and other holidays here towards the end of the year. And not only can this be a prime time for emotional eating, but this can be a prime time for emotional gymnastics that we do, right? For like all of the bending and pleasing and appeasing and turning ourselves into pretzels, trying to fit into other people's lives. It's such an incredible timeframe to really look at what all is happening. Because you might also find that maybe you have a pretty easy time saying no to the food, or you don't overeat or overindulge during the holidays. But maybe you tend to be more of a people pleaser, maybe you tend to be more of a fixer, maybe you're maintaining relationships and dynamics that you don't really want, Maybe you're overworking and trying to make up for the work that a coworker is slacking on, but you're not actually saying that out loud or advocating for yourself. And maybe it's also a really great time as we end one year to really reflect on what's happened this year, what you hoped was gonna happen, where you thought you were gonna be and what you really want for the next year. But this is such an ideal time to actually be addressing this and to look at it. What happens when we have extra parties and extra events and maybe extra obligations or the pressure to participate when maybe you don't really want to? Things like that. All right, that's it. I'm done talking. I think this is long enough, but I hope that you'll consider joining me for the emotional eating experiment. So again, I'm looking for one person who wants to join me on this journey for about eight to 10 weeks where we're going to document. You're going to get coaching for free, but I am asking you to share your story and to be vulnerable. But I promise you will create so much progress and so much transformation in these 10 weeks, it's going to blow your mind. So if you want to be a new person by the new year, come join me.
